Descrizione
Morfologia
Of the three access points to the cavity, the middle one is the largest and is divided in two by a block of rock, giving rise to two chambers of different dimensions that are interconnected by a passage. At the back of the westernmost one, which corresponds to the third entrance, a wide gallery (16 metres maximum) opens between blocks, low-ceilinged (0.8-1.2 metres), 15 metres long and slightly descending, at the end of which the cavity remains closed. In different corners of this chamber small side rooms are formed.
Idrologia
In the final stretch of the chamber, clear signs of temporary flooding can be observed.
Altri dettagli
The cavity opens in lower Triassic materials (Buntsandstein), probably coarse sandstones or microconglomerates. At different points on the walls of the cave, signs of artificial excavation can be observed, possibly from mineralogical prospecting.
Storia
Known for a very long time by the people of the area, by hikers and even by some speleological group, but nothing had ever been published about it. In November 1981 members of the SIE – CEA visit and survey it, and it was published for the first time in volume 6 of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (1982) under the name Cova de Can Plans de Monteugues, although there is a citation that called it Cova dels Pirates and graffiti at the entrance (1981) read Cova de la Granota. Recently (2014), at the nearby farmhouse we have been told that it has always been known by the name Cova de l'Home Mort and in some hiking itineraries that appear on the internet it is also mentioned by this name.
