Località

Located on the left bank of the barranc dels Botets, very visible because of its spectacular mouth. Situated at the foot of the cliff and opposite casa Rei. It can be reached without problems from Esplugafreda by going up the barranc, or by coming down from Casa Rei and crossing the barranc.

Large natural rock shelter 45 metres wide and 5 metres deep. The average height is 13 metres.

Storia

Cavity cited in the great work Onomasticon Cataloniae by the scholar Joan Coromines, where he also ventures the hypothesis that this rock shelter may be the one that gave its name to the small village of Esplugafreda: "Les mencions antigues Spluca Freta dels Ss. X i XI acaben de demostrar que l'etimologia última i real fou SPELUCA FRACTA 'balma o espluga que s'ha ensorrat'
