Descrizione
Morfologia
The cavity has two clearly different sectors; the first half is a pressure conduit, with an almost circular or elliptical cross-section and a diameter of the order of one metre. On reaching a crossing of joints the cavity continues according to the direction and form of these, often with very high sections but difficult to progress through as a consequence of their narrowness, which increases progressively until it becomes impassable. The total elevation change is 5 metres (+1.7; -3.2).
Idrologia
Old spring of the karst system of the Serrat de les Xispes. When the base level dropped and the water emerged through the current resurgence, the cavity died hydrologically, while conserving its youthful erosion-corrosion morphology. In the last stretch the presence of water can be observed at the bottom of the joint.
Progressione
The best itinerary is to leave the car at the sanctuary of Montgarri, walk to the confluence of the Ribera del Forcall with the Noguera Pallaresa and go up the Ribera (first along the left bank) for a couple of kilometres until reaching the vicinity of the cliff where the cavity is located.
Storia
The first exploration of which there is a record was carried out in September 1980 by F. Sala and J. Cuenca of the GE de Badalona who, on observing the spring, prospected the surroundings in search of possible cavities.
