The museum includes underground galleries about 1.2 kilometres long, located 18 metres below the surface.

The galleries can be visited only by reservation, by small groups of visitors (generally as part of requests from associations).
The route brings together, over a small part of the underground quarries of Paris, all the types of consolidation carried out under Paris from the end of the 18th century, before the creation of the Inspection générale des carrières, up to the 1940s.

The site is managed by an association, the SEADACC (Société d'études et d'aménagement des anciennes carrières des Capucins), under an agreement with the city of Paris. The association handles the development of the site, restoration, research work on the theme of the old quarries and guided tours of the museum.
Storia
The SEADACC is itself the heir of the SEHDACS (Société d'Étude Historique des Anciennes Carrières Souterraines)1, founded at the end of the 1970s by Alain Clément. This association notably obtained the listing of the sector of the fontaine des Capucins and of neighbouring galleries.
