Baztan 570m 75m

A cavity in the Baztán Valley with a large sinkhole funnel, two levels and an 11 m pit that reaches a depth of 75 m.

Caratteristiche

Località

In the municipality of Elizondo, Valle del Baztán. From the Bortzerreketa ravine it is reached by the track that, starting from the Ermita de San Pedro, begins in the Etxaide district of Elizondo and leads to that of Beartzun. Soon it divides in two; taking the left one, one continues for some five km. On reaching Martieneko Borda one must turn right and descend towards the Casa Urrutia, from which the col that gives rise to the ravine can be seen to the South. Alternatively one can take the track that from Gartzain ascends the Ezkaldo mount in the direction of the aforementioned col; however, this track is in poor condition, so a four-wheel-drive vehicle is necessary or, failing that, to go up on foot.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The mouth of the cavity is a large sinkhole funnel, where it divides into two levels. The first is meandering and presents some technical difficulties because of the narrow and "wet" passages, as well as several bottomless passages. The lower level is of larger dimensions.

Concrezioni

The lower level has an abundance of reconstruction phenomena.

Idrologia

The cavity is formed by a fault and receives the waters of several springs at its head, one of which sinks into this cave, the closest to Beretzako Borda. The bottom is reached at a depth of 75 m, in a suffocating flat-out passage that carries the waters in search of EZ-2.

Progressione

From the first level, meandering, an 11 m pit of delicate access is reached that leads to the lower level. The bottom is reached at a depth of 75 m.

Altri dettagli

It is one of the most interesting cavities of the aforementioned valley. Its first known visits go back to the inhabitants of the place, who visited it to see its beautiful formations and obtain "candles", it being necessary to use ropes of the period inside, whose remains stay within it.

Storia

Later, speleologists of the I.P.V. explored the cavity more seriously back around the year 1974. In 1953, Institución Príncipe de Viana. In 1992/3, E.R.E. del C.E.C. In 1994, Investigación Ezcaldo G. Satorrak.
