Barrenc du Clos des Ombres

Fine funnel-shaped entrance 5 m x 3, followed by a vertical pit of 42 m, averaging 6 x 4, a little smaller at the bottom. At its base, one lands on the top of a steeply sloping scree. The earthy, then rocky, scree, 12 m long, spreads into the entrance chamber 20 m long by 15 wide, which descends to the lowest point of the cave (-58) where the ceiling drops to a height of 3 m. On the right side, a very low ceiling gives access to a small adjoining chamber 4 m by 2, which is the base of a shaft climbed for 22 m up to an impassable narrowing. After the lowest point, the ceiling rises and the cave continues through a large passage rising 6 m x 5 at floor level formed of large blocks of calcite. After 30 m, it ends at a 3 m step at the top of which one is at the base of an important decorated shaft. a few metres before the step, a 4 m climb in the right wall of the gallery allows one to reach a small decorated passage which returns to the gallery via a drop of 7 or 8 m. The terminal shaft, 20 m high, has been climbed on its right side. After 13 m, a side passage allows one to rise more easily by opposition up to a large decorated balcony. 6 m higher, the shaft opens into a decorated chamber of about 10 x 5 m, which continues as a gallery. One climbs a decorated 3 m step and, a few metres further on, flows of calcite obstruct the continuation. One is here fairly close to the surface (elevation -12 relative to the entrance). a few shafts begin in the ceilings, but they are all choked by the flows or else end in impassable narrowings.

Decorative formations are very abundant throughout the part close to the surface, where flows of calcite obstruct the continuation of the gallery beyond the decorated 3 m step.

At the foot of the rope, in the East wall of the pit, a narrowing cleared with a hammer and chisel gives access to a small gallery that rises under a scree slope and leads through a narrowing to the start of a fine shaft about a dozen metres long; it has not been climbed because it appears obstructed. a side passage allows one to climb 5 to 6 m up to a balcony in the wall of the shaft.
