Balma de Paüsa

We find the rock shelter beneath a waterfall formed by the rec de Paüsa. The cavity presents a semicircular opening 45 m long and a depth of 10 m, with a maximum height of 8 m.

Water seeps through many points of the cavity, so it is a damp area, where moss and vegetation grow abundantly.

The rock shelter is not very bright, since the vegetation covering the entrance does not let much light through. The ceiling shows soot stains, coming from campfires.

(Note from Espeleoíndex): The place name Paüsa raises many doubts. On the ICGC map it appears, depending on the scale, in two forms: Paüsa and Peüssa. In the Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana they cite the Balma de Paüsa. And to complicate matters further, in the Nomenclàtor oficial de toponímia major they call it: Peüsa.
