Descrizione
Morfologia
The entrance, 2.4 by 1.4 metres, gives access to a 7.6-metre pit that ends in the N end of the so-called Sala dels Pastors, 36 metres long by 4 wide and 6 high. In the central zone of this chamber and next to the right-hand wall two pits opened by digging emerge: the Pou de la Concòrdia, 33 metres deep with its first 10 metres very narrow, and the Pou de la Discòrdia, 20 metres free-hanging followed by a ramp of 8 metres and another vertical one of 4. Both pits allow you to reach the Sala Joan Sabaté Geladó (8 by 10 metres). From the SW end of this chamber two galleries leave, one above a 3-metre step and another descending. The upper one gives access to a very high fracture which, after turning sharply towards the N, drops down in some dead-end pits. This fracture, after descending a 3-metre step, leads to the Sala del Vivac, covered in sand. The Sala del Vivac is 12 x 5 x 8 metres. The Sala Pili is 10 x 7 x 6 metres. The Sala de les Banderes is 26 x 3.5 metres. The Sala GEA (Grup d'Espeleologia Autònom) is 18 x 10 x 7 metres, of great volume and with a very high ceiling. The Gorg del Tonto has a pool of 3.5 x 2 metres and one metre deep. The Per Ales chimney is 12.3 metres and reaches the level of – 11 of the cavity. The cavity reaches the level of maximum depth (- 56 m).
Concrezioni
The Sala del Llac is decorated with an abundance of stalactites. The 20-metre-long or so bedding plane has many stalactites. The Sala Pili is decorated by some beautiful flowstone and some stalactites and stalagmites. The Sala de les Banderes is the most decorated chamber in the cavity; there is a stalagmite almost two metres high, as well as some curious gours of great beauty.
Idrologia
The Sala del Llac, as its name indicates, is partly occupied by a shallow body of water; the chamber has a low ceiling. At the Riu del Sandwich, in a N direction (upstream) and after 6 very awkward metres, it ends in an impenetrable sump. Downstream (S direction) you advance along a narrow meander through which a small flow of water runs; after advancing 34 metres along this meander you reach a point where you can climb a ramp up to a series of chambers of great beauty. Further on, continuing downstream along a narrow active meander, the water is lost through an impenetrable hole, where the cavity reaches the level of maximum depth (- 56 m).
Progressione
From the Sala del Vivac, in a SW direction you reach the Sala del Llac. If from the Sala del Vivac you continue towards the NE you enter a bedding plane about 20 metres long with many stalactites. Back in the Sala Joan Sabaté Geladó, take the descending gallery that leads to the Riu del Sandwich. After advancing 34 metres along the meander, you can climb a ramp up to a series of chambers of great beauty; the first is the Sala Pili. Through an ascending narrow passage between formations (El Pas dels Barrots) you reach the Sala de les Banderes. From the Sala de les Banderes there is a balcony that drops over the Sala Pili (see section L of the survey). From the Sala de les Banderes you can continue ascending through a 9.2-metre pit and another of 4 metres, rigged with fixed equipment, up to the Sala GEA. From it you can reach a gallery located at its O end, which ends after a few metres; a few metres before this short gallery ends, on the right, there is a sloping 8-metre step that leads to the Gorg del Tonto. From the chamber between P-9 and P-4, a chamber with large blocks, you can reach the Per Ales chimney, 12.3 metres and rigged with fixed equipment. Returning again to the Riu del Sandwich, if instead of climbing towards the Sala Pili you continue downstream, you follow a narrow active meander; you must overcome some narrow passages (two of them dug open) such as the Pas del Pit de Pollastre, until reaching a point where the water is lost through an impenetrable hole.

Storia
This cavity was surely known for a very long time by the shepherds of the area and the odd hiker, but incredibly it had remained unrecorded for speleologists. It was not until 2009 that two members of the UEC Tortosa, Joan Sabaté and Rafael Pulgarín, rediscovered it and, for lack of more information, decided to name it with the curious name of Sabarin, formed from two particles of their surnames.
At first only the chamber at the bottom of the small entrance pit could be explored, but a first digging opened up the so-called Pou de la Concòrdia, which allowed the continuation of the whole lower network of pits and galleries. A second digging near the first opened up the Pou de la Discòrdia, parallel to the previous one and much more comfortable to overcome.
Throughout 2009, the members of the Speleology and Canyons Section of the UEC Tortosa, with the collaboration of colleagues from the Espeleo Club Castelló and the Espemo group (Morella), carried out the complete exploration of this beautiful cavity and a careful survey of the whole set of pits and galleries.
There has always been the doubt as to whether this cavity could be one of those for which there were some references of old explorations in the area, such as for example the Cova de l'Orgui, visited by J. Mateu and R. Margalef around the year 1945 for biospeleological purposes and without positive results (Español, 1950; Speleon nº 1). Until not long ago we thought that an unpublished survey that appeared in the GES – CMB files had been made by Llopis Lladó in 1935, but recently our friend Lluís Muntan confirms to us that the old surveys found at the CMB had been redrawn by himself when he was in charge of the GES file. After making many checks and looking again and again at the drawings, we have reached the conclusion that there seems to be no doubt that the first chamber of the Avenc Sabarin is none other than the Cova de l'Orgui.
This pit will always be linked to one of its discoverers, the excellent speleologist and mountaineer Joan Sabaté i Geladó, who in the prime of his youth (27 years old) died in a tragic canyoning accident at Gavarnie in September 2011.
