Descrizione

Morfologia

Through a mouth about 80 centimetres in diameter one enters a subvertical shaft that descends in steps about 7 metres deep. At its base, a ramp of stones connects with a new drop that leads to a room of notable dimensions (Sala SIRE) and at its deepest end leads to a short gallery where the cavity appears to end. Halfway up the room and through a window that had to be cleared (Pas Emília), one reaches a new room (Sala GEB) and a little further to the E one can still reach a new chamber (Sala Tortosa). Both rooms develop on vertical polarity, presenting respective lower sections. In the deepest part of the Sala Tortosa the maximum depth of the cavity is reached at 23.6 metres.

Concrezioni

The entire cavity is full of magnificent lithogenic formations.

Altri dettagli

In the absence of specific speleometric data we have calculated that it exceeds 100 metres of passage, although these are estimated data.

Storia

It seems that the discovery and first partial exploration were carried out by members of the Secció d'Espeleologia i Barrancs de la UEC Tortosa during the year 2009, naming it Avenc Florema. This discovery was never publicised.

Around mid-2011 and during an excursion in the area, members of the SIRE – UEC Sants and of the GEB rediscover the cavity and during the exploration can already observe that it had been visited previously, but without being able to find out until later who its first explorers had been. A clearing allows them to discover new galleries of the system, they make the survey and afterwards they bring it to the attention of the Espeleo Club Tortosa in a joint visit. Among them all they decide to name it Avenc dels Estels del Sud.
