Caratteristiche

Località

Along the track from Begues to la Plana Novella, once past Can Puigmoltó, one reaches Coll Fe; on the right is the Creu farmhouse and a little further on Mas Grau. From the same col, in a S direction, another track leaves that runs along the right bank of the stream that goes towards Mas Grau; when the track crosses the stream one must climb perpendicularly up the right bank and about 25 metres above the level of the thalweg is the cavity.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The pit has three entrance mouths, two upper ones of vertical development and a lower one that gives directly onto the base of the small entrance shafts. A 2 metre drop leads to a lower chamber with a sloping floor, with a maximum axis of 10 metres and occupied by clastic materials.

Idrologia

It seems to be an old sinkhole of the nearby stream where the waters acted on a N-S joint. Subsequently, the progressive epigean erosion of the thalweg gave rise to the exterior opening of the third mouth.

Storia

The first documented exploration was carried out by Norbert Font i Sagué on 20 July 1898, publishing a sketch of the cavity.

On 30 March 1923 it is visited by Rafael Amat.

During the 50s of the last century, members of the SES Puigmal, thinking they had found a new cavity, renamed it with the name Cova Meva.

In 1974, on the occasion of the edition of the three volumes of the catalogue of the Massís del Garraf by Joan Borràs, the survey appears published.

In 2014 members of the GEB, ECG and CE Begues carried out a new survey.
