Località

In the NW of the Mola de Catí (el Port). Very close to the boundary of the municipalities of Tortosa and Alfara de Carles.

From the area where one parks to go to the Avenc dels Mamelons, one must follow the track in the direction of the Algars river and at the first bend we come to we will go to the left, climbing a little and then continuing to glide a little further to the left. In sight of the Moletes de Venanci.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cavity is formed by a long and narrow joint that reaches 29 metres of depth, the point where the narrowness prevents passage beyond.

Altri dettagli

In October 2008, members of the Secció d'Espeleologia i Barrancs de la UEC Tortosa, on an outing to hunt mushrooms, find an unknown cavity which they explore and name GEA-3.

Some time later, Oleguer Escolà passes on to us the 1974 survey and some black-and-white photos. With this new data, the colleagues of the Espeleo Club Tortosa can verify that the GEA-3 is none other than the lost Avenc de la Suor.

At first glance, the 2008 survey seems, according to the scale, to fix a depth greater than the real one.

Storia

Discovered by members of the ERE-CEC on 20-5-1972. Cantons and Nubiola make a quick exploration and the cavity remains forgotten. On 13-4-1974 members of the ERE-CEC (Escolà and Schibi) return with biospeleological purposes and make a survey of the cavity that had remained unpublished. A couple of years later it is visited very superficially during the campaigns carried out by the SIE – CEA at the Mola de Catí.

For more than 30 years the cavity remained practically forgotten and with no data on its location.
