Caratteristiche

Località

Shortly before km. 31 of the C-1415a road (from Sentmenat to Castellar del Vallès) we will find on the right the entrance to the Can Vinyals urbanisation, which we must cross entirely along the main street until it joins a dirt track leading to the house of Guanta (restaurant). We continue on and shortly there is a large round water tank, the track turns right and climbs through an urbanisation (Bosc de Guanta) where from time to time we find a few houses. From the last house, the track worsens and shortly beyond it ends. About 250 metres before the end of the track there is a very pronounced bend with an electricity pylon (x: 426260; y: 4610993; z: 549 m.; ED50) and above it begins a well-marked and clear path that climbs steeply up the ridge in a NE direction. Before reaching the highest part we pass beside some old reddish sandstone boundary markers (term markers ?; the municipal and comarcal boundary is at the very start of the path) and shortly afterwards the path becomes a wider track that levels out until it reaches a wide track. We follow it to the left, in the direction of Farell, and after 120 metres, on the right and next to the edge of the track, is the mouth of the pit. We do not know whether this track is accessible to vehicles or is closed from its start, but the approach is much easier by climbing from Caldes de Montbui to Farell and following the track to the pit.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The mouth, 0.80 x 0.70 metres, gives access to a 4.50 metre shaft which at 2 metres opens into an elongated chamber of fairly acceptable dimensions (5 x 10 metres), with a strong slope towards the S, where the chamber forms an overhang at the deepest point of the cavity at – 7 metres. The N part of the chamber, being the inclined floor, at 4 metres reaches and meets the ceiling. Cavity seated on an N20O joint, where erosive forms are visible in the first metres of the shaft. The chamber is excavated in a very visible stratum of red sandstones. Note: The mouth is half blocked by a wedged block, but the passage to the shaft seems accessible, although notably narrower than when it was discovered.

Concrezioni

Where some stalagmitic formations are observed.

Storia

The only published data are those resulting from the exploration carried out by members of SIS – CET on 1 September 1984. Our friend Lluís Auroux tells us that he was there at the end of August 1989 and the current track had not yet been made, at that time the pit was 1.5 metres above the path and it seems that when they made the track they placed the block that half blocks the mouth.

Note biospeleologiche

(Note provided by Lluís Auroux) Coleoptera: Troglocharinus kiessenweteri Also located, without determination: urodeles, bats, araneids, dipterans,...
