Descrizione
Morfologia
A 9-metre-deep entrance shaft gives access to two routes: the Via del Mort and the Via de les Sales. On the first, a 35-metre shaft, divided into a couple of sections, leaves us in a highly decorated chamber full of sediments. In a corner, at the start of the chamber, there is a 20-metre shaft (Pou Cul-de-sac) where the deepest point of the pit is reached (- 74 m.).
The Via de les Sales is reached by a ramp and a 35-metre aereal shaft that leaves us in the first chamber (Sala Gran), said to be the largest subterranean chamber in the el Port massif. From this one we can climb up to go to the Sala Alien and the Sala del Llac or, along a side passage, to the Sala del Curs, where the highest point is only 7 metres of elevation difference with respect to the level of the entrance mouth of the cavity.
Altri dettagli
When we made the first version of this record we had no data regarding the total length of the cavity and we calculated that it could be approximately around 400 metres. Shortly afterwards the book Els Ports. Barrancs, coves i avencs (Victor Ferrer, 2013) came out, in which the total length of 665 m. already appears, confirmed by the survey that the friends from Tortosa have sent us.
Storia
This was the cavity cited by the shepherd Cesáreo in 1985 to members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa, but they needed four successive attempts to locate it and during this time they first located CP.1 and CP.2.
Despite its interest, the exploration was not considered finished until 2010, when some unknowns were finished being explored and the survey was made, which remained unpublished until the spring of 2013 and which we now accompany to complete the record (June 2013) and provided by the colleagues from Tortosa.
Complementary note: Lluís Ibáñez, on his blog: pelport.blogspot.com.es (post of 1 May 2010), recounts the route of an excursion taking advantage of the story of two hitmen who went to find a shepherd known as “el murciano” and once they recognised him they inflicted a knife wound in his belly. Having doubts whether they had killed him at first, they returned and still found him dying. To make sure, they took him as far as the avenc de la Solana and threw him down the shaft. All in all it seems it was a revenge of a father with a daughter dishonoured by the shepherd. It is not specified what time this story is from.
When the colleagues of the Espeleo Club Tortosa made the first exploration of the pit, they found a human skeleton that was removed and buried in the cemetery of Roquetes. The cavity, in addition to CP-3, is also known as Avenc del Mort. But on the ICC map it appears as Avenc de la Solana, coinciding with the story of the murder.
