a cavity rich in calcite formations, accessible via a 25m shaft, with prehistoric remains and a more demanding inner section.
Descrizione
Morfologia
The cavity develops as a large chamber, rich in formations and of fine volume. In the upper chamber, a fault mirror suggests a tectonic collapse, thus creating the volume of the cavity. a famous cupule in the upper part of the chamber has nothing to do with an archaeological remain: it is a surprising but natural form of excavation.
Concrezioni
Calcite flows are numerous and spread over large surfaces. The fault mirror is the favoured place for the development of curtains. The very end is a rather beautiful zone with formations and numerous gours.
Idrologia
The very end is reached by crawling through gours with a few centimetres of water.
Progressione
Access is via a 25m shaft; one emerges onto a scree cone. The inner section of Sot Manit is a little more demanding: from the bottom of the scree cone, a constriction allows passage onto a calcite flow to descend a narrow shaft for 6m (see equipment sheet). At the bottom, a low and narrow passage gives access to the continuation. The network develops in a fairly large scree with big blocks and a few funnels; beware of falling stones! a few engraved arrows indicate the way to follow. The very end is reached by crawling through gours with a few centimetres of water; it is worth doing despite the mud.
Altri dettagli
Prehistoric remains are a must-see: traces of vase bottoms caught in the calcite. The vases are visible at the museum of Lodève.
