Arrafela I

The Arrafela pit develops along a fissure bounded by two walls; the depth is approximately 40 metres along the wall situated to the North.

The descent into the Arrafela pit can be made via the two walls that bound the fissure along which the pit develops. This requires a rope of no less than 50 metres, since the depth is approximately 40 metres along the wall situated to the North; the rigging is done using the trunks of several beech trees that stand on the small clearing. A handline is rigged up to the beech tree situated right on the edge of the pit. From this point a first rebelay is made, from which the descent continues to the bottom, or a second rebelay is made barely two metres from the edge, thereby preventing the rope from rubbing against the wall. In the final part, a rope deviation is recommended to avoid rubbing, using a sling with a carabiner anchored on the protrusions of the wall. On the opposite wall, the one situated to the South, the rigging also starts from the trunk of a beech tree situated in the upper part. From this point, descend to a spit situated about 4 metres along, where a rebelay is made, descending to the bottom of the pit. Inside the cavity, the use of ropes is not necessary.
