Descrizione

Morfologia

The torn opening (No. 1), horizontal in shape, and the other semicircular opening (No. 2), almost adjoining it, face south (SW / 140º), commanding a wide panorama. The entrance of the first niche measures 2 m in width by 1.4 m in height and does not penetrate more than two metres. Two burial niches are hollowed into a travertine rock. The upper part is excavated.

Idrologia

From the openings a wide panorama is commanded, where the Araquil flows into the Arga. The two river basins mark routes of ancient transhumance, linking the Catabro-Aquitanian regions.

Altri dettagli

There were two important sectors: those situated to the south, where the burial cave is found, a place of burials and looting, and the part situated above Ibero, which collapsed and shows greater development in terms of its formation. The upper part is excavated, demonstrating the existence of a primitive population with a communication route parallel to the present road; in the upper part there is a large Iron Age settlement. The sites dotted the river basins of the Basaburua, Larraun, Ulzama, Arga and Araquil, until reaching this small Quaternary promontory with a splendid view. From the Pamplona basin, outlined with burial hollows, we easily come into communication with other more southerly lands, but also rich in inhumation shelters. The whole floor is an artificial fill of very humic and loose earth.

Storia

Human remains exist. From the artificial fill of the floor, human bone remains, grave goods, especially pottery, and portable art were collected. 13/10/1963 Institución Príncipe de Viana.
