A life-size engraving and bas-relief sculpture of a becquart salmon adorn the ceiling of the Abri du Poisson.
Descrizione
Morfologia
Depicted life-size (1.05 m), the fish that gave the shelter its name is engraved and carved in bas-relief on the ceiling of the vault, heightened with red color.
Altri dettagli
It is a becquart salmon, with an upturned jaw; the posture is characteristic of a male exhausted by spawning. The theme is rare, since only about ten fish have been recorded in Paleolithic parietal art. Other parietal works have since been identified by Christian Archambeau and Alain Roussot, notably a black negative hand and incomplete engraved animal figures.
